Royal Wedding ~ William and Kate

Since I have been wedding-minded because of my sons upcoming wedding, I can't help but be enamored by the royal wedding of William and Kate which will be happening tomorrow.  I have been watching all the specials on TV each night preceding the big ceremony.  I have had stars in my eyes about all the lavish prep, work, detail, money spent, extravagance etc...  I will be one of the few that will be up tomorrow morning at 5AM to watch Kate depart from her hotel on the way to Westminster Abby for the wedding ceremony.  It occurred to me last night though, that as sumptuous as the whole ceremony will be, not much of it is to the liking of William or Kate I'm sure.  No choice of colors for the bridesmaids or who to pick, the cake style, the minister...etc... but everything is super dictated, in fact, they are told what will happen more than asked what they would like. Sad for such a huge day in your life. Just imagine.  We will watch in awe tomorrow, but really, I would just much rather go to my sons wedding which has the threaded influence of friends and family all through it... with love, laughter and the sense of knowing that no matter what, we will always stick together.

Sorry for the delay in blogging... We had a storm hit about a week ago and an extremely loud crash of thunder and pop of lightening killed the HP laptop that I had had for four and a half years~!  Anyway, I've been on the hunt for another and haven't found one quite yet... gosh they are expensive!!

I shall return!

We Are Not in Kansas Anymore.......

Please be praying for the towns of Tushka and Atoka Oklahoma (among others) who were hit by a terrible tornado last night.  The school that my daughters boyfriend went to all his life has been demolished.  There is at least one fatality ~and possibly more than one.. many injuries... people without homes, electricity and jobs.... people are desperate, without... and need help.. and Jesus...

Do You Say Yes Too Often? Hearing Your Calling~

Are you finding yourself overscheduled and stressed out? Do you wish you could spend more time on things that make your heart sing?

Just about every woman I talk to struggles with busyness and stress. The problem is we can be as stressed and busy as we let ourselves become. Most of the time stress rears its ugly head in my life when I’ve taken on too many commitments that are not within  the realm of my dream and purpose. It’s easy to over commit ourselves when we see opportunities in front of us or obligations pressing in on us.  But if you know what your calling is, you will know when to say “no” and when to confidently give your “yes.”

After saying “yes” to too many things for which I should’ve said “no,” I came up with three questions that I now run by myself in order to gauge if an opportunity is related to my specific calling, or if it’s something I should confidently pass up, to avoid over commitment and eventually, burnout.

When there’s a dream on our hearts, or a burden we feel we must pursue, or we’re simply asked to do something, we have to figure out if it’s what we’d like to do, or what someone else would like us to do, or if it’s what God is calling us to do. You can determine the answer and gain discernment by asking yourself these three questions:

1.      Is this something someone else can just as easily do? If so, then maybe you are not necessarily being called to do it. All through our Christian lives, we will see opportunities to fulfill needs and we should help to do so if we are able, along with fellow believes. Serving others should be a part of our lives, but such service won’t necessarily be the same as a special calling. If we don’t put parameters around our volunteer hours we will do whatever comes up and find ourselves overscheduled and lacking joy. But if you focus on what only you can do, a sense of purpose will come into the picture. The calling God has on our lives is often something only you can do.

2.      Is this something I have a strong heart’s desire to do? God generally calls us to a task we would enjoy doing, or that matches some of our natural abilities or areas of spiritual giftedness. And He’ll often call us toward something that for awhile has been burning on our hearts. If you have a conviction about taking action in a certain area, that may be God calling you forward. But if you are feeling guilty because no one else is doing something, that  may be a tendency of yours to rescue a situation, not necessarily a calling on your heart by God. I often tell others “If you don’t like children, don’t volunteer to work in the church nursery. You’ll be miserable and so will the children!” On the other hand, if your heart is stirring for an opportunity and you can’t wait to jump in, it may be something God is leading you toward.

3.      Is this something I feel God prodding me to do? Sometimes that conviction on our hearts simply won’t go away – the need is very apparent, and no one else is stepping forward to meet it. When that happens, lift the matter to the Lord in prayer. If the burden persists, then it may be God nudging you to take the lead in that situation or fulfill the need.  Feelings of inadequacy don’t count in this situation. If God is calling you to do something, He will equip you in spite of your weaknesses. (Those stories are all through the Old Testament.) God often wants to do through you what is beyond you.

When you take these questions to the Lord and say “God, please confirm to me if I am the one to do this” and then wait for His answer, you can be more certain that you are called to a specific task and that you aren’t just filling your schedule with something else that’s going to stress you out or wear you down.
So what if you clearly know that a few things on your plate are not related to your calling? Then that’s the time to pray for a way to graciously let some things go. Being in a situation, and being stressed isn’t beneficial to your situation, to you, or to others. However, when you are living out God’s specific plans and purposes for your life, there’s no such thing as burnout, stress and frustration.

Pray about your decisions. Have a willing and obedient heart to go where God leads, but ask Him for discernment to recognize His leading and the ability say “no” if it’s going to keep you from doing what God has designed you to do. Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established” (NASB).

Live wisely this week…and know what it is you are truly being called to do.

Birthday Eve

On the eve of my 46th birthday I stand in awe of how time literally flies.

It's true what they say - that the older you get, the faster the years go by.

I don't mind turning 46.  No, I really don't.

I do, however, wish that I had a net to catch time and make it stand still.......

... just for a while..

Signs and Symptoms of Inner Peace

signs and symptoms of inner peace:

watch for signs of peace, the hearts of a great many have already been exposed to it and it seems likely that we could find out society experiencing it in epidemic proportions, which then of course, could pose a serious threat to what has up to now seemed a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world

  • Tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on past experiences

  • an unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment

  • loss of interest in judging other people

  • loss of interest in judging self

  • loss of interest in interpreting actions of others

  • loss of interest in conflict

  • loss of interest loss of ability to worry *this is a very serious symptom

  • frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

  • contented feeling of connectedness with others and nature

  • frequent attacks of smiling through the eyes, from the heart

  • increasing tendancy to let things happen rather than make them happen

  • increase in susceptibility to love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

If you have all or even most of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition of PEACE may be so far advanced as being incurable! If you are exposed to anyone exhibiting several of these symptoms, remain exposed only at your own risk. this condition of PEACE is probably at it's most infectious stage.

    Time Inbetween~ Francesca Battistelli

You were there when your Father said
    Let there be light
    You obeyed when He whispered
Son, You have to leave tonight
To spend nine months in a mothers womb
Three days in a borrowed tomb
    (Chorus One)
But it’s the time in between
That brings me to my knees
    Knowing you came for me
And all that I can't be
    I'm amazed, so amazed
And I thank You for the time in between
Don't take much for this crazy world
To rob me of my peace
And the enemy of my soul
Says You’re holding out on me
So I stand here lifting empty hands
For you to fill me up again
    (Chorus Two)
But it’s the time in between
That I fall down to my knees
    Waiting on what You'll bring
And the things that I can't see
    I know my song’s incomplete
Still I'll sing in the time in between
    So many ways
Your love has saved the day
And I'm grateful for them all
    (Chorus 3)
But it’s the time in between
    The middle of two thieves
    That says everything
    It’s the reason I believe
    I'm amazed, so amazed
And I thank you for the time in between
Oh Lord, I thank you for the time in between
