Empty Chairs

The house was clean.

The coffee was ready to be brewed.

The first chapter of John was studied and ready to be discussed.

Seven o'clock came and went.

The driveway remained empty.  The chairs in the house remained empty.  My HEART felt empty.

Why would members of a church ask specifically to have home bible study... and then on the night that everything has been prepped and prepared.. no one shows up?

Isaiah 55:10-12 (The Message)
8-11"I don't think the way you think.
The way you work isn't the way I work."
         God's Decree.
"For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
Just as rain and snow descend from the skies
and don't go back until they've watered the earth,
Doing their work of making things grow and blossom,
producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry,
So will the words that come out of my mouth
   not come back empty-handed.
They'll do the work I sent them to do,
they'll complete the assignment I gave them.

12-13"So you'll go out in joy,
you'll be led into a whole and complete life.
The mountains and hills will lead the parade,
   bursting with song.
All the trees of the forest will join the procession,
   exuberant with applause.
No more thistles, but giant sequoias,
no more thornbushes, but stately pines—
Monuments to me, to God,
living and lasting evidence of God."

Oh Peggy.... been there - done that. My husband and I led many a Bible study in our home and some nights we'd have to bring out more chairs and other nights we'd be all alone. I am hungry to delve in to God's Word and study and glean from other believers. I just don't know too many today who are as 'hungry' - or perhaps they're busy feasting on other things? Maybe I'm being too harsh - maybe they all had other reasons for not showing up?
Hugs,
Deb

Don't let that discourage you, I too have been there! Just mkeep trying, an ddon't give up. I think Stan works especially hard to block things from happening, especially when He knows He can get you down by doing it, and keep you from reaching others! Keep on keeping on! I will be praying!
